Happy New Year, ECE!

As some of you may have noticed, the machines in our ssh-linux.ece.ubc.ca cluster have had some issues lately. While we originally had a set of four machines, hardware failures have left us with just ssh-linux3 and ssh-linux4, which were not enough to handle the end-of-term load.

Therefore, we have prepared a new set of four machines. Effective January 1 2012, if you connect to ssh-linux.ece.ubc.ca (or ssh.ece.ubc.ca), you will be assigned to one of ssh-linux5, 6, 7, or 8. The new machines run 64-bit Debian 6; the old ones were 32-bit Debian 5.

If you encounter problems with the setup on ssh-linux5, 6, 7, or 8, please file a ticket. For now, you can still connect directly to ssh-linux3 or ssh-linux4 if necessary. We expect to decommission the old machines with no further announcement in March 2012.
