TeamViewer is a proprietary remote-desktop protocol. We are aware that it is installed on some workstations at ECE.

Over the past week, there have been an increasing number of reports that unauthorized users have been able to remotely control computers with TeamViewer installed. Attackers have reportedly been conducting financial transactions using the compromised workstations.

Although the TeamViewer company has so far denied allegations that their system's security has been compromised, we are taking the precaution of blocking TeamViewer until the method of attack becomes clear.

Please contact the ECE IT Support Team if you need assistance with setting up alternative remote-desktop solutions such as Windows Remote Desktop or X11 tunnelling.
