WHAT IS THIS MAINTENANCE?
Owing to ongoing mail service disruptions, UBC IT will perform urgent maintenance on ECE's IMAP mail servers on Wednesday, October 29th between 2pm-2:30pm PDT.
HOW AM I IMPACTED BY THIS WORK?
The mail service will remain active during this maintenance window, but you may experience a brief incoming mail outage if you are off-campus, or if your e-mail client (e.g., Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook) points to an older, defunct mail server name. Please see "WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?" below for instructions.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
Please ensure your mail client is configured as per http://help.ece.ubc.ca/Email_Quick_Start
If you currently use “mail.ece.ubc.ca” for the Incoming Server name in your mail client (e.g., Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook), please ensure you change your IMAP server to “imap.ece.ubc.ca”. The port remains 993 with SSL/TLS.
MAINTENANCE DETAILS
UBC IT will be migrating the incoming IMAP-based ECE mail servers from physical hardware to a VMware virtualization infrastructure hosted at the University Data Centre. Concurrent to the physical-to-virtual migration, the DNS record “imap.ece.ubc.ca” will be updated to point to the new virtual servers.
